Andy Robertson, the skipper of the Scotland national football team, said supporters were absolutely right to show their frustration after his team faced a 0-3 defeat at the hands of Ireland in a UEFA Nations League match on Saturday, June 11. The Scottish team was greeted with boos after they went down in their previous game.

Michael Obafemi, Troy Parrott and Alan Browne scored goals as Ireland beat a lacklustre-looking Scotland, thereby helping Stephen Kenny’s team secure their maiden victory in the tournament.

The defeat comes days after Ukraine dashed Scotland’s hopes of reaching Qatar for the World Cup after beating them 3-1 in the playoff match.

“We weren’t good enough,” Robertson was quoted as saying to Premier Sports. “We’ve now said that twice in 10 days. We’ve let the manager down, that’s what’s so disappointing for us. Every one of us lost our individual battles.

“The fans behind the goal, booing us off, were completely correct. That performance is nowhere near good enough in a Scotland jersey.

“We have to hit the reset button because everything was good last year. This year, the performances haven’t quite been up to scratch as yet. We need to get back to being consistent. I thought last year that’s what we were really good at.”

The Ireland team climbed two places up to second in League B Group One standings even as Scotland, who are also on three points, dropped to third spot. Ukraine, who defeated Armenia 3-0 in the other group match, remain top of the group.

Scotland are now set to face Armenia on Tuesday, June 14.
