The Indian men’s team produced a flawless performance against Bangladesh to cruise into the Table Tennis semifinals on Sunday.

Sathiyan Gnanasekaran and Harmeet Desai secured a doubles win over Ramhimlian Bawm and Mohutasin Ahmed Ridoy in the first game while Sharath Kamal and Gnanasekaran won their singles match to seal the deal and progress to the final four stages.

The Indian contingent had a day to forget on Saturday as the women’s team crashed out of the tournament with a loss to Malaysia. The win on Sunday does bring in a lot of happiness for the fans after Manika Batra and co’s exit in the quarterfinals.

Gnanasekaran and Desai got off to a slow start in their doubles match but still maintained a 4-3 lead over the Bangladeshi duo. However, a few costly errors from the Indian pair forced the game to be leveled at eight all.

However, Gnanasekran and Desai bounced back and took the game 11-8. From there it was one way traffic as the Indian duo quickly wrapped things up to win the match with a score of 11-8, 11-6 and 11-2.

Next was Kamal, who was completely dominant in his bout with Md Riffat Sabbir. The Indian paddler dominated the first game and wrapped it up with a score of 11-4.

Sabbir did have a mini-lead during the second game but his momentum was short-lived as Kamal came back and took the game 11-7.

The 40-year-old wrapped up the game in no time and won the match 11-4, 11-7 and 11-2.

All eyes were on Gnanasekran to secure the win and the Indian paddler didn’t disappoint. The 29-year-old was absolutely brilliant in his singles match against Mohutasin Ahmed Ridoy and secured the match for India with a scoreline of 11-2, 11-3 and 11-5.

With the win, India will now take on Nigeria in the semis as they look to defend their crown.
