Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo took to social media to share his thoughts after returning to competitive action with the Premier League giants even as speculation about his future at the Old Trafford club is rife.

Ronaldo, who missed the pre-season tour in Thailand and Australia after reportedly deciding to leave the club to play in the Champions League, played the first 45 minutes before he was substituted by manager Erik Ten Hag in their friendly against Spanish club Rayo Vallecano on Sunday at home.

Ronaldo started the game before he was replaced at half-time. The Portugal superstar, who was linked to Bayern Munich and Atletico Madrid, was pictured leaving Old Trafford before the final whistle, according to ESPN.

It is not yet certain whether manager Erik ten Hag approved of Ronaldo leaving Old Trafford even before the final whistle was blown in their friendly match.

United completed its preseason preparations with a draw as Ronaldo’s replacement Amad Diallo’s 48th-minute strike was canceled out by Alvaro Garcia Rivera.

Ronaldo, however, doused concerns among the United fans by taking to social media and posting a message to his fans and followers.

It remains to be seen if Ronaldo will be available for Manchester United’s opening game of the new season against Brighton next week as the former champions get their Premier League campaign underway.

Manager Erik Ten Hag on Sunday said that he is happy with the way Manchester United’s pre-season went and appreciated the support the home team had on Sunday.

“Overall, I am happy, we made a good preseason,” Ten Hag said. “We make good progress and we’re ready for the season, but still I know there is a lot of room for improvement and we have to improve.

“It’s also a process that continues during the season, but for next week it’s about a result as well. The reception was fantastic. I felt the vibe in the stadium, I felt the vibe they want to send to the team,” he added.
