After recording the figures of 6 for 19, India fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah said there was some seam movement and he just tried to exploit that.
Bumrah, along with Mohammed Shami, rattled England’s top-order and bundled out the hosts for a below-par score of 110 in just 25.2 overs in the first ODI match, which India won by 10 wickets at the Oval on Tuesday.
“See I don’t look at end results and judge my bowling. There have been instances where I’ve bowled so much better than this and have not gotten wickets, but I always look to follow the same routine,” Bumrah said in the press conference.
“Today was a day where the white ball swung and there was some seam movement, so I wanted to exploit that. When we started the innings, we saw there’s some seam and swing so we both of us had a conversation, Rohit and I, that we should go a little fuller and try and bowl the Test match length, so yeah it was a good day, we got wickets and there was some help in the beginning, and the wicket was also on the softer side.”

Bumrah’s six-wicket haul is now the third best ODI figures for an Indian. Before him, Stuart Binny had taken 6 for 4 against Bangladesh in 2014 and Anil Kumble had returned with 6 for 12 against West Indies in 1993.
In spite of his brilliance with the ball, Bumrah said he will keep a balanced head. “When things go well you can point out a lot of things that yes this went well, but I try to keep a balanced mind, not to go too far ahead. Yes, it was a good day, but we have to start again in the next game from zero.
“So I look to do that, keep a balanced head and try and remember the things that have worked for me before as well, so in the previous tours as well when I have come here, what has worked, what has not worked for me, keep that in mind, keep those mental notes whenever you start fresh, so yeah all of these things I try to keep in mind and try to keep a balanced head.”
A 1-0 up India will take on England in the second ODI at Lord’s on July 14.
