French Open 2022: India’s Rohan Bopanna and his Dutch partner Matwe Middelkoop reached the men’s doubles semi-final on Monday after a stunning win over British-Finland pairing of Llyod Glasspool and Harri Heliovaara.

42-year-old Rohan Bopanna reached his first-ever Roland Garros semi-final in men’s doubles on Monday, May 30 as the Indian campaigner and his Dutch partner Matwe Middelkoop pulled off a heist against the British-Finland pairing of Llyod Glasspool and Harri Heliovaara 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 (3) in the quarter-final on Court Simonne-Mathieu.
In a thriller that stretched to 2 hours and 4 minutes, 16th seeds Bopanna and Middelkoop brought out all their experience as they went from 0-3 down in the Super tie-breaker to win 10 points on the trot and seal a berth in the semi-final.
Bopanna, who had won the mixed doubles title at French Open along with Gabriela Dabrowski in 2017, was charged up in the Super tie-breaker as Glasspool and Heliovaara were unable to match the intensity of the Indo-Dutch pairing.

With Middelkoop hitting some stunning forehand winners and Bopanna finding winners with incredible calmness, the veteran doubles pairing got to their first-ever Grand Slam semi-final as a pair.
It was also Bopanna’s first men’s doubles semi-final at a Grand Slam in 7 years. The Karnataka star had reached the Wimbledon semi-final in 2015 with Florin Mergea.
Notably, in the last-16 match, Bopanna and Middelkoop had ousted the 2nd seeds and Tokyo Olympics gold medalists Nikola Mektic and Mate Pavic after saving 5 match points.
Bopanna and Middelkoop will face 12th seeds Marcelo Arevalo and Jean-Julien Roger.
Bopanna paired up with Midddelkoop in th clay season. The two senior campaigners played the ATP 250 event in Belgrade in April before returning to team up at the Italian Open. Notably, Bopanna had reached the semi-final of the Monte Carlo Masters earlier this season with Jammie Murray.
