Golden great Neeraj Chopra does it again, absolutely thrilled: Anurag Thakur lauds Olympic gold medallist


Neeraj Chopra set a new national record and personal best of 89.30m at the Paavo Nurmi Games 2022. The throw also bettered his gold-medal winning throw of 87.58m at the Tokyo Olympics.

Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur heaped praise on Neeraj Chopra after the Tokyo Olympic gold medallist shattered his own national record in the javelin throw.

Chopra, who returned to competitive action for the first time since the Tokyo event, set a new national record and personal best of 89.30m at the Paavo Nurmi Games 2022, a Continental Tour event in Turku, Finland on June 14. The throw of 89.30m was also better than his gold-medal winning throw of 87.58m at the Tokyo Olympics.

“Golden Great Neeraj Chopra does it again! Neeraj Chopra threw 89.30 metres at Paavo Nurmi Games to create a new National Record! Absolutely THRILLED You’ve got to see his throw!” said Thakur.

Former Union Sports Minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore said: “Our decorated olympian Neeraj Chopra sets a new national record. He finishes 2nd at Paavo Nurmi Games with a new personal best throw of 89.30m in Turku, Finland.”

MP and retired India cricketer Gautam Gambhir tweeted: “The golden boy has done it again! New national record. Great going Neeraj Chopra.”

Chopra shifted his training base to Finland, wherein he has been undergoing a 28-day training camp with his coach Klaus Bartonietz.
