Indian pacer Deepak Chahar has claimed that he won’t be fit in time for the T20I series against England which will start next month. Chahar claimed that it would take him another four or five weeks to fully recover from his hamstring injury.

The 29-year-old sustained the injury during the series against West Indies in February this year. It would ultimately rule him out of the 2022 IPL.

Currently undergoing his rehabilitation process at the NCA, Chahar told PTI that his recovery is going pretty well and it will take another four or five weeks before he becomes match fit.

“I am bowling four to five overs at one go as per my rehab programme right now. My recovery is going pretty well and I think it will take another four to five weeks for me to get match fit,” said Chahar.

The Indian pacer went on to say he won’t be fit in time for the upcoming T20I series against England, which will start on 7th of July. Chahar said that once he is match fit, he will need to check his fitness levels by playing a few club-level games.

“It’s a step-by-step process as far as recovery is concerned. I don’t think I will be fit for England T20s. Once I am match fit, I will need to play some club-level games to check my fitness,” said Chahar.

When asked if he was targeting a return to the national side for the upcoming tour of West Indies, the 29-year-old said he is unable comment on it at the moment. However, he went on to state that he will definitely try to be fit by then and make it to the team.

“I can’t say that but I will definitely try and get fit by then. Let’s see,” said Chahar.
