Kylian Mbappe is likely to extend his contract with Paris Saint-Germain instead of moving to LaLiga champions Real Madrid.
The 23-year-old French forward’s current contract will expire on June 30. A new contract, which could tie Mbappe to the French champions Paris Saint-Germain until 2025 has not been signed yet, French sports daily L’Equipe reported.
There were reports that Mbappe would join Real Madrid on a free transfer when his contract expired at the end of the season.
Mbappe burst onto the scene as a teenager. He helped his national team, France, win the World Cup in 2018. Paris Saint-Germain signed Mbappe from AS Monaco FC in 2017 in a deal that was reported to be about 180 million euros.
The transfer made him the world’s second-most expensive signing after Brazilian forward Neymar, who moved from FC Barcelona to Paris Saint-Germain for 222 million euros.
Real Madrid had previously bid for Mbappe last year. However, they were rejected by Paris Saint-Germain. This year, the Parisian club appeared prepared to lose Mbappe on a free transfer. According to reports last year, the Spanish champions had offered Paris Saint-Germain as much as 200 million euros for the Frenchman.
Paris Saint-Germain, however, had no mood of parting ways with Mbappe in their quest for Champions League glory. This season, the French club fell short when Real Madrid made a dramatic comeback in the last-16 to knock Paris Saint-Germain out of the competition.
Paris Saint-Germain added firepower to their star-studded squad, signing Lionel Messi from Barcelona. However, apart from reclaiming the Ligue 1 title, Paris Saint-Germain failed to clinch any other trophies.
The Frenchman Mbappe ensured to shine individually as he scored 36 goals and provided 26 assists for Paris Saint-Germain in all competitions this season.
