India are set to start their final qualifier round campaign for the AFC Asian Cup on June 8, Wednesday in Kolkata. The Indian team which has been drawn into a favourable group with lower ranked teams is primed to go through to the next stages of the competition.
Speaking ahead of the game, India captain Sunil Chhetri once again requested the fans to come to the Salt Lake stadium so the hosts can enjoy the full benefit of playing in home conditions.
Chhetri spoke on a video posted by the All India Football Federation and stated that the crowd of 70,000 could end up making a massive difference and work as the 12th man in the fixtures.

“Let the three teams that are going to play against us, play against us plus you, because that will be a massive difference. So, if you’re free, please come. We will try to make it a good experience for you guys,” he added.
“Last time, when we played here we played against Bangladesh, there were 50,000+ of you in the stadium. I cannot tell you how happy we were,” Chhetri talked about India’s last home game where they were held to a 1-1 draw in front of a 61,000 strong crowd.
Apologising for their result, Chhetri promised that the Blue Tigers would make up for the disappointment last time.
“We couldn’t get a result as good as the support you gave. Apologies, because we didn’t do well. But please come again this time. We’ll try our best to put in the best effort that we can,” he concluded.
