With the T20 World Cup just four months away, India are yet to finalise their World Cup squad. Having been drubbed in the 2021 edition of the tournament which they themselves hosted in UAE, India will be on a mission to turn things around under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma.

Sharma will be captaining the Indian side for the first time in a World Cup and would like to settle on a squad soon, to start planning their approach under the tutelage of Rahul Dravid.

Speaking after the South Africa series, which ended up in an unceremonious draw, Dravid said that he is yet to settle in on the final 18-20 players, but would like to get that done, as soon as possible.

“As you come closer and closer to the event, you want to firm up your final squad or if not, you want to have some contingencies in the kind of world we live in today. Obviously, you want to take only 15 to the World Cup but (need to identify) top 18 to 20 players,” he replied to a query about what’s the core team India have.

“Obviously, there could be odd changes due to injury and things that are beyond your control but we are going to start looking to firm up that squad as quickly as possible,” he further said.

“Whether that will happen in the next series (Ireland) or series after that (England) is hard to tell but we are certainly looking to do that as quickly as possible,” he further added.

India have to make key decisions about their openers, the place of Rishabh Pant or Dinesh Karthik in the team, and fix on the middle order as well. They will also be spoilt for choices in the pace department with the likes of Jasprit Bumrah, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mohammed Shami, Avesh Khan, Harshal Patel, Umran Malik and others available at their disposal.
