  • Mumbai have put up dominating batting performances
  • All eyes will be on Sarfaraz Khan in the final
  • Madhya Pradesh will be the underdogs in the final

Mumbai are set to play Madhya Pradesh in the Ranji Trophy final scheduled to start on Wednesday, 22 June. Heavy favourites leading into the final match, Mumbai have put up strong batting performances leading up to this stage. In Sarfaraz Khan, they have the highest runscorer this season, and in Yashasvi Jaiswal they have someone who scored twin centuries in the semi-finals.

Mumbai have form concerns with captain Prithvi Shaw, who has not scored a century in the knockouts, despite getting starts. However, ahead of the final, Shaw was not concerned about not getting centuries and said that it is only a matter of time that he starts middle the balls.

“I have scored a couple (three) of fifties but that’s not enough for me for sure and no one even congratulated me after scoring a fifty and you feel bad as well (jokingly),” said the Mumbai skipper.

“It happens sometimes but I am glad that my team is doing well. As a captain, I have to think of all 21 players I have got here and not just about me.”

“In cricket and in life, the graph always goes up and down and it’s never going to always go up. So it’s a just a matter of time that I middle those balls and get those big runs again. But right now, I want to ensure that my team is doing fine and is enjoying its game.”

Shaw was highly rated since he burst out onto the scene, but he has fallen down the pecking order over concerns with his fitness. Although, he said that that is something that is not bothering him at the moment.

“It’s nowhere near my mind you know comeback to the Indian team. Getting the Cup is my main motive and not thinking anything other than winning this one. The preparation what we have done for the Ranji Trophy and not focusing on what’s happening on the outside. It’s about winning the Ranji Trophy and getting those happy moments back,” Shaw said.

Shaw will hope that his batters turn up for one last time against a strong spin attack of Madhya Pradesh that demolished Bengal. The right hander would be confident of brining Mumbai the trophy with the likes of Shams Mulani, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Arman Jaffer in the side.
