New Zealand fast bowler Lockie Ferguson said that he was highly disappointed after missing the T20 World Cup 2021 in Oman and the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Ahead of the multi-nation tournament in October-November, the speedster sustained a calf injury that ruled him out of the tournament.
Ferguson, who played for the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) just before the start of the World Cup, said that he was in pretty good shape, having bowled well in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021.
“Definitely. Yeah. Of course. That [missing the 2021 T20 World Cup] was probably one of the low points in my career. Missing that opportunity, particularly in the UAE, where I’ve had some success in the IPL I was feeling good about my bowling leading into that tournament and always joining my good mates and playing for the Black Caps is something I cherish,” Ferguson was quoted as saying to ESPNcricinfo.
Ferguson, who was a part of the title-winning Gujarat Titans in IPL 2022, mentioned that he will try hard to work on his game ahead of the T20 World Cup later this year in Australia.
“You can’t really look back too much and you’ve to look forward. We’ve got a lot of cricket and a lot of travel coming up, then home for a little bit, and a few series leading into the World Cup. So, there is an opportunity there to work on my game and make sure that it’s as good as possible leading into that World Cup. We’ve got an exciting squad, again, and the boys enjoy playing World Cups,” he added.
Ferguson is now set to take part in the three-match ODI series and three-match T20I series against Andrew Balbirnie’s Ireland.
In 37 ODIs and 15 T20Is, the 31-year-old pacer has picked up 69 and 25 wickets respectively with two five-wicket hauls to show for his efforts.
