Former cricketer Parthiv Patel has claimed that Rishabh Pant could open for India in the second T20I against England in the place of Ishan Kishan.
Pant wasn’t part of the Indian squad for the first game on Thursday but will return for the one in Edgbaston. The Indian wicketkeeper made quite an impact at the same venue a few days back, scoring a hundred and fifty in the rearranged Test.
Patel, while talking to Cricbuzz, said that Pant will bring in a lot of confidence from his outing at Edgbaston and can replace Kishan at the top of the order.
“DK has been the No. 1 finisher, Ishan Kishan has been the highest run-scorer for India in T20Is this year and Rishabh Pant is Rishabh Pant. Although he had a modest IPL, he will bring confidence from that hundred and a fifty from the Edgbaston Test. He can open in the place of Ishan Kishan and can get quite a few opportunities at the top,” said Patel.
The former Indian cricketer went on to suggest a few more changes that could happen. He said that Ravindra Jadeja could come in place of Axar Patel, while Jasprit Bumrah could come in place of Arshdeep Singh, who impressed in the first game. However, Singh has been omitted from the squad for the remaining matches.
Patel went on to say that Iyer could miss out on a spot in the team with Virat Kohli and Pant expected to return.
“Axar Patel will be replaced by Ravindra Jadeja. Jasprit Bumrah will also come in for Arshdeep Singh. Shreyas Iyer I think might not make it to the playing XI. Both Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant might come back but it will be interesting to see who will be left out,” said Patel.
India will look to wrap up the T20I series on Saturday with a win.
