Australia limited-overs skipper Aaron Finch on Tuesday heaped praise on fast bowler Josh Hazlewood, saying when he is bowling at such consistent lengths it becomes hard for batters to face him.
Hazlewood took four wickets to help the T20 World champions beat Sri Lanka by 10 wickets in the first T20I in Colombo.
“I think with the ball, when Josh Hazlewood is bowling such consistent lengths we know as batters how hard it is to face that. We wanted guys to take a risk playing the hardest shots against that length through the middle overs. We managed to get that. We managed to control the middle overs by getting wickets,” Finch said after the match.
Australia bundled out Sri Lanka for 128 in 19.3 overs. While chasing a below-par total in a rain-hit second innings, Finch (61*) along with David Warner (70*) helped Australia go 1-0 up in the three-match series.
Talking about the opening partnership, Finch said, “It was nice to get a few runs and have a really good partnership with Davey.”
Australia will meet Sri Lanka on June 8 for the second T20I.
