HIGHLIGHTS

  • Pakistan defeated West Indies 3-0
  • Imam-ul-Haq was declared the man of the series
  • Babar Azam played two brilliant knocks in the series

Pakistan skipper Babar Azam sounded upbeat after his team’s clean sweep against West Indies on June 12 in Multan. Pakistan have been in good touch against the Nicholas Pooran-led team, first by putting up strong batting performances in the first two matches and then by the brilliance of Shadab Khan in the third and the final ODI.

Speaking after the final game of the series, Babar said that the results were owed to the different combinations that Pakistan used which kept the Windies players guessing throughout the series.

“We executed our plans and got the desired results. We are trying different combinations with bat and ball. We will try to keep continuity and also test our bench strength,” said Babar Azam.

The third ODI was a rare off day for Babar Azam who got out cheaply, but Pakistan were saved by Shadab Khan’s 86 which allowed them to put a decent total of 269 on the board. The score turned out to be enough in the rain-impacted game as West Indies were skittled for just 216 runs within 40 overs. Shadab was once again the hero of the game picking up four wickets from his nine overs.

Pakistan have been in good form in the ODI format, making the best out of their flat tracks in home and have several players in the top 10 rankings in the world. The batters list is led by Babar Azam himself followed by Imam-ul-Haq who won the man of the series against West Indies.

Shaheen Shah Afridi, who was rested for the final ODI is the 6th ranked bowler in the world while the all-rounder’s list has Imad Wasim in it.

Speaking after the loss West Indies captain Nicholas Pooran said that batting failures led to the Windies’ loss and they would like to improve on them.

“The last two games were disappointing for us. We played poorly with the bat. We did well as a team and going forward that will be the template,” West Indies captain Nicholas Pooran was quoted as saying by ICC.
