Mumbai opener Yashasvi Jaiswal opened up on his brilliant performance against Uttar Pradesh in the semi-final of the Ranji Trophy. Jaiswal scored two hundreds in the match and became the ninth Mumbai batter to achieve the feat. He was also awarded the Man Of The Match award.

The Rajasthan Royal batter scored 100 in the first innings, which helped Mumbai reach the score of 393. After the bowlers took down the UP batting lineup for just 180 runs, Jaiswal played a gritty knock in the second innings to ensure that his team booked a spot in the final. The southpaw scored 181 runs from 372 balls.

Talking to Times Of India, Jaiswal said that his plan was to stay in the middle for a long period of time after realizing that the pitch was slow.

“I studied the wicket and realised that it was slow. When Prithvi got out, I discussed the plan with Armaan Jaffer. I wanted to give myself time at the crease because I wanted to stay in the middle for as long as possible. This was my plan. I know it took me a lot of balls to get off the mark, but once I was settled, I started accelerating,” said Jaiswal.

Speaking about becoming the ninth Mumbai batter to score hundreds in both innings during a Ranji Trophy game, Jaiswal said he was unaware of the record and got to know about it after he reached the dressing room.

“I wasn’t aware of this record. When I returned to the dressing room, my teammates told me about this. I am honoured to see my name with legends like Sachin sir, Wasim sir, Rohit and Ajinkya,” said Jaiswal.

The southpaw also revealed that his Rajasthan Royals teammate, Daryl Mitchell, sent him a congratulatory message after his Ranji Trophy semi-final heroics.

“Facing 54 balls and not scoring a single run wasn’t important for me. For me, the important thing was to stay there, stick to the plan and not lose my wicket. That’s what I discussed with Armaan (Jaffer) and we both stuck to the plan. I got a congratulatory message from Daryl Mitchell after my centuries in both innings. He said ‘ you did really well. Keep going. Don’t stop’,” said Jaiswal.
